INTRODUCING ED KRONENBURG
Ed Kronenburg (69) is a recently retired senior diplomat. He was Secretary-General of the ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2008 till 2012 and ambassador to France (2012-2017) and to China and Mongolia(2017-2019). At the ministry he was i.a. Director for Europe and deputy Director-General for European Cooperation. His career also included secondments to the OECD in Paris as Head of the Budget and Finance Division (1985-1988), to the European Commission in Brussels as deputy head of cabinet of Commissioner Hans van den Broek (1993-1999), to NATO as director of the Private Office of Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer (2004-2006) and to the Royal Household as Grandmaster of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix (2007-2008).
Since September 2019 he is a columnist for the ‘Financieele Dagblad’, chairs various government related supervisory and advisory committees , is a member of the AIV (Advisory Council for International Affairs), and is active for non-profit organisations.
His first posting was to the Dutch embassy in Jakarta in 1976. This enabled him to get to know Indonesia and to appreciate the great importance of the relationship between the two countries, using their strong bonds to forge a close cooperation in facing mutual and global challenges. Throughout his career he maintained a keen interest in the development of the bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands.
