Mervin Bakker

INTRODUCING MERVIN BAKKER

 

Mervin Bakker (1973) joined the INS Board in 2020. He has a strong link with Indonesia through work and family relations. Professionally his main areas of expertise are international relations and higher education.

 

Mervin is currently Director International Strategy & Relations at the University of Groningen (UG) where Indonesia is one of the focus countries. Before joining UG, Mervin has worked for Nuffic’s Netherlands Education Support Office (NESO) in South Africa (2017-2020) and Indonesia (2011-2017) as Regional Director. During his 6 years in Jakarta, he was mainly active in supporting Dutch universities in Indonesia and the ASEAN region, and implementing education programmes and projects for the Dutch government. Earlier in his career, Mervin has worked for the University of Amsterdam as Manager International Programmes and Head of Marketing & Communications. Next to that, he worked for an education agent in Thailand and ran a student related business in the Netherlands.

 

Mervin holds an MSc in International Economics & Economic Geography (1998) from Utrecht University and an MBA in Higher Education Management (2007) from the Institute of Education at University College London.
